FAQ

Will my wedding be your only wedding for the day?
Yes. We will be the ones covering your wedding. We shoot and work best together, so we will not be handling one wedding each. It’ll be your wedding and yours only for that day.

What are your packages and rates?
Our current packages and rates can be found here. If you’d like a customized quote, email us at info at info@melvingilbert.com and we’d be happy to assist you.

What’s your primary style? Posed and formal, relaxed, photojournalistic, creative, artistic, candid, traditional?
I consider myself a photojournalistic wedding photographer, although I normally include the standard posed shots associated with most weddings today.

Is there a limit to how many photos you can take?
No, there is no limit (within reason) to how many photos I can take. My cameras are digitally formatted and use digital media cards to store each photo as it is snapped. I could potentially take 2,000 – 3,000 photos in a single outing. This is very unusual, however. I normally capture 500 – 1,500 images each outing.

What attire will you wear?
Professionalism is very important to me and I dress accordingly – normally in slacks and button-down long-sleeve shirts with a necktie. If the event calls for stepping up the attire, i.e., a tuxedo or suit, please let me know and I’ll be glad to oblige.

Do you charge fees for out-of-town coverage?
Yes, we charge a little extra for shoots outside of Los Angeles, enough to cover our transportation expenses and travel time. Please e-mail us for details regarding your specific location/s.

What kind of input can we have on the direction of the shots? Can we give you a shot list to work from?
I would like to get as much input as possible from you. I draft a Wedding Photo Schedule that is customized specifically for your wedding. The schedule allows you to see how many hours are needed for shooting your wedding and exactly who will be photographed when & where. You will have the opportunity to edit the schedule as much as you like.

Can other people take photos while you are taking photos?
Yes, but I usually ask attendees to shoot before or after I shoot, to prevent confusion, blinking, flashing, etc.

We would like 2 photographers for our wedding. Is this something you can provide?
Yes, we can provide 2 qualified professional photographers for your wedding. An additional fee for this service will be added to your wedding package price.

What kind of equipment will you bring with you? How intrusive will lighting, tripods, other equipment or assistants be?
Most of our equipment is very mobile and small. I don’t use lighting equipment (except on-camera flash, of course) unless necessary for exceptionally large group photos indoor. I don’t necessarily require the help of an assistant, but one frequently will assist.

Have you shot in [church] and [reception venue] before?
We’ve never tried to hide the fact that we’re new. We actually love the fact that we are, and have tried to offer something different from the beginning with our leanings towards modern vintage romantic images, and black and whites. We tend to be more photojournalistic in shooting weddings. (For more information on our style of shooting, read this.) We just celebrated the business’ first anniversary last July 2010. We’re still experiencing a lot of firsts, but be assured that this does not in any way affect our work. If anything, it’s been greatly helpful to us because we’re seeing places with fresh eyes.

We also recognize that it takes a lot of passion for and trust in the brand to book the new guys, which is why we make every conceivable effort to exceed our clients’ expectations. We’ve been very lucky with our clients thus far. The amount of trust they’ve shown us is staggering. A lot of them have ended up being our friends post-wedding, some even during the wedding preps period, and we consider this an incredible blessing.

And if we’ve shot in the church and reception venue before, we take it as a challenge to go out of our way to make it different. We don’t do cookie-cutter coverages.
